ELNEC Geriatric Palliative Care: Module 8 - Ensuring Quality End-of-Life Care (1339)
31 minutes
0.5 contact hours/Continuing Nursing Education

Description:
This module focuses on the role of the nurse in achieving quality end-of-life care by reviewing limitations in existing systems and creating change. Nurses have a tremendous opportunity to influence change in current systems of care.  Understanding the financial implications in palliative care can create realistic outcomes of care and increase better utilization of resources for patients with life-threatening illness. Improving care for elderly patients and their families is contingent upon changing systems of care.

Objectives:

  • Address opportunities for the nurse to participate in healthcare reform and public policy to improve end-of-life/palliative care.
  • Discuss how nurses can improve access and promote clinical excellence in palliative care.

  • Discuss quality improvement efforts that can be undertaken by geriatric nurses to improve palliative care.
