Description:
This program provides an overview of the evolution of hospice
from its origins to the present and offers a look into the
future. The profile of the hospice patient has changed in
recent years from predominately cancer to patients who often
present with a complex constellation of non-curable illnesses
that have a less predictable trajectory toward death.
Objectives:
- Participant will discuss the origins of hospice from medieval
times to its introduction in the US.
- Participant will list two barriers to hospice care that
impact access and length of stay.
- Participant will describe the composition of the hospice
interdisciplinary team
- Participant will explain the shift in hospice patients'
diagnoses from cancer to non-cancer
