Description:
This course is designed to explore the practitioner's role
in assisting with patient and family communication. One potential
tool for effective communication are family meetings. Key
to family meetings is bringing all parties together to discuss
the patient and family current situation in an environment
that allows for all to share openly. In today's global society,
family meetings may not be convenient, but high quality patient
care does not allow for such excuses. Learning how to best
conduct these meetings in a global society is crucial to the
effectiveness of the meeting outcomes. More importantly, quality
patient care may rest on the outcomes of the meetings. Therefore,
as a social worker, it is critical to understand how to best
conduct meetings that allow for very sacred moments to take
place between the dying and those who will live on.
